You Can’t Come Back Home

“You Can’t Come Back Home”
Christine Farmer, pen and ink drawing (10″ x 14″).
One of a series of autobiographical drawings I did in the early 1980’s while I was living in Herefordshire. The portraits were taken by my father; the baby photograph is the earliest one which was taken of me, just a few hours old and wrapped in a hospital blanket. The other is the same photograph that appears in “The Place Where I Live”; in it I’m playing football in a local park. The churchyard is that of Almeley Church in Herefordshire, an interesting site which also contains an ancient earthwork. The title is a line from the track “Funeral Pyre” by The Jam.
